Hyundai Motors India Limited (HMIL) announced the launch of their new Neo Fluidic Elantra in India yesterday. But, bookings for the same had begun a month back and Hyundai has revealed that over 750 customers have already booked their new Elantra Fluidic. The all new Hyundai Elantra is the 5th generation variant and in India it will compete with segment leader Chevrolet Cruze. Other sedans in the segment which will be bothered by the launch of new Elantra are Renault Fluence and Toyota Corolla Altis.
Launched in a choice of two engine options, a 1.8 liter petrol and 1.6L diesel, Hyundai Elantra 2012 is priced between Rs 12 lacs to Rs 16 lacs. Petrol engine is a Dual VTVT offering 149.5 PS (147.4 bhp) at 6500 rpm while peak torque is at 18.1 Kgm (177.5 Nm) at 4,700 rpm.
The 1.6 liter diesel VGT CRDi offers 128 PS (126.2 bhp) power at 4000 rpm and 26.5 Kgm (259.8 Nm) torque at 1,900 to 2,750 rpm. Both these variants will be available in an option of either a 6 speed manual transmission or 6 speed automatic transmission depending on customer's desires. The diesel variant with its efficient 1.6 liter engine offers 22.7 kmpl while the 1.8 liter petrol variant offers 16.3 kmpl making it the most fuel efficient car in its segment.
Another attraction of the 2012 Hyundai Elantra is its warranty period. Hyundai is offering a 4 year warranty or 100,000 kms with road side assistance. Bookings and deliveries will commence immediately after launch and judging from response received from overseas markets, HMIL is expecting the Neo Fluidic Elantra to be an immediate success in India.
