Proper implementation of traffic rules to help reduce number of accidents in India

Law Enforcement agencies have a tough time implementing these rules due to lack of man power. Currently there is 1 policeman for 761 individuals. In such a situation only major roads are overlooked by traffic policemen while other connecting roads are overlooked. Checkpoints at times at placed in places where there is a stretch of road allowing them to catch offenders by surprise. This doesn't work at times as people used to the road evade these wardens effortlessly.

With every passing year, there has been a significant increase in vehicles in metropolitan cities in India. This increase has brought about a need for proper implementation of traffic rules to avoid road accidents. Traffic rules are very easy to follow, yet there are many people who choose to ignore them. There have been many cases wherein young lives have been lost due to errant driving and drunk driving. Statistics have revealed that India is leading the world in number of people dying in road accident every year. Proper implementation of these traffic rules can help lower these numbers considerably and provide a safe journey for all.

To help bolster implementation of traffic rules police and associated law enforcement agencies should make use of technology like hidden cameras, speed guns and breath analyzers. Interceptor vehicles and police patrols should also be set up to catch erring drivers. A collective effort by citizens and enforcement agencies can help improve conditions of traffic in India.
