An international panel of experts has warned violent images in games and movies can trigger aggressive thoughts. The International Society for Research on Aggression-IRSA revealed that constant exposure to extreme violent images can trigger feelings stored inside to erupt. The panel has warned parents about the dangers of children getting hooked on to violent games and extreme violence depicted in movies and urged parents to keep a watch on their children’s activities. Furthermore the panel report reveals the risk of rage breakout and aggressive behavior is higher among individuals that are addicted to violent images on various media such as games, movies or TV.
The Media Violence Commission was appointed by the IRSA last year. In their report the Commission said” One may also become more vigilant for hostility and aggression in the world, and therefore, begin to feel ambiguous actions by others (such as being bumped in crowded room) are deliberate acts of provocation”. The report also read” Parents can also set limits on screen use, and should discuss media content with their children to promote critical thinking when viewing. Schools may help parents by teaching students from an early age to be critical consumers of the media and that, just like food, ‘the you are what you eat’ principle applies to healthy media consumption”.
