Tata Motors, India's leading automobile manufacturers have recorded a 12% increase in sales during the month of August 2012. Sales stood at 71,826 units during the month. Taking into consideration sales of both commercial and passenger vehicles, sales stood at 67,453 units as compared to 59,874 units in August 2011. Commercial vehicle sales stood at 45,142 units in August 2012 as against 43,045 units in August 2011 - an increase of 5%.
Passenger vehicle sales were up 33% and stood at 22,311 units in August 2012 as compared to 16,829 units in August 2011. Sales of the company smallest and cheapest car Tata Nano were even more spectacular during August 2011. The company recorded a five-fold increase in Tata Nano sales with sales touching 6,507 during August 2012 as compared to only 1,202 units in August 2011.
Sales of all Tata models such as, Sumo, Safari, Aria and Venture saw a drastic increase in August 2012. Sales reached the 3,629 figure, up 38% as compared to only 3,321 units in August 2011. However sales of Tata Indigo were down 29% during the current year with only 3,629 units sold as against 5,100 units sold in August 2011. Exports of Tata Motors increased 4% and stood at 4,373 units as compared to 4,204 units in August 2011.
