Maruti Suzuki Manesar Plant operations with full worker strength by end of September 2012

While Manesar Plant of Maruti Suzuki India was in the news for all wrong reasons these past few months, the company has finally come out of troubled times and is well on their way to functioning at full strength. The company declared that they expect to have a full employee workforce by the end of September as they take on new workers in place of those laid off due to disciplinary constraints.

The company is in the process of taking on contract and permanent workers and should complete procedure in the coming 10 days. Hopefully then, by the end of the month, operations at the plant will begin in right earnest.

Following violence at the Manesar Plant on July 18, the company had fired 500 permanent workers and had refused to take back workers who were directly responsible for the mayhem and arson which cost the company the life of a senior official besides leaving 100 injured. In the coming few days the plant is expected to reach full production capacity in a single shift which will stand at 700 units which was what the company was producing prior to July 18th. Swift, A-Star, Dzire and SX4 are being produced at the Manesar plant and the company hopes to make do their losses suffered during the period of lockout by the end of October.

Partial production, a tiny trickle of workers and personnel from the Rapid Action Force and police marks the opening day for Maruti Suzuki Manesar Plant. The plant which was shut down on July 18th following rampant violence which left one senior official dead and several other grievously injured opened its doors on Tuesday morning under tight police protection.

Maruti Suzuki is opening with only 300 workers who will operate in single shift from 8.00 am to 4.30 pm and will produce only 150 cars as against their daily capacity of 1500 to 1700 vehicles. On day 1, 1/4th the number f proposed workers turned up for work. Production activities will gradually be increased to original capacity but heavy police protection will continue while a special force of ex-service men have also been comprised to look after law and order situation in the plant.

500 permanent workers' services have been terminated. These are the workers who were proved to be directly involved in the attack and violence at the plant while an additional 500 contract workers will also be relieved of their services for their participation in the violence. The company will also begin fresh rounds of recruitment for permanent workers from the first week of September and will also take on additional contract workers. As the plant opens its doors, security will be a top priority with special security personnel also posted at residences of top officials after which the company will concentrate on production and other plant activities.
