Haier, a Chinese manufacturer has come up with TV technology that eliminates the remote. Eye-Control- TV allows the viewer to change the channel by blinking eyes. You don’t have to worry because standard blinking does not interrupt viewing schedule of an individual. The bulky device that is placed in front of the TV relies on a sensor similar to the one used in Kinect, the sensor determines TV operations in accordance with blinks.
The sensor has to be calibrated with the TV when it is run for the first time. Long blinks are required for the sensor to be activated and for screen display to come up. Volume controls come up on screen when the user looks downwards after which the user can adjust the volume by shifting eye focus towards the left or right.
Although this sensor device is yet a prototype, the system was tested at the IFA technology conference and was praised by tech experts who called it a ‘compelling concept’. With new technologies being developed, gadgets are making life too easy for people. Obesity is on the rise and the finger is pointing at gadgets and technology. Obesity is exceedingly high among kids and adults hooked onto gadgets. We are on the road to disaster; question is where are we headed?
