BMW hoping to regain their No 1 position from Audi with new 3 Series launch in India

With each passing day, BMW is successfully getting car buyers in India more and more excited. The reason, launch of the new 3 Series sixth generation on 27th of this month. This new 3 Series has already made its debut in the European a few months back with a range of petrol and diesel variants.

In India, the new BMW 3 Series is expected to be available in four diesel variants and one petrol variant. Diesel variants will be powered by a 2.0 liter turbo diesel engine providing an output of 184 bhp and 380 Nm of torque. Gear transmission will be an 8-speed automatic transmission currently seen in the 5 series models. All of the diesel variants have requisite upgrades and optional features and are named: 320d, 320d Sport Line, 320d Luxury Line and 320d Luxury Plus.

The petrol variant is named 328i Sport Line and is powered by a 2.0 liter turbo charged engine which is designed to increase fuel efficiency and performance. Rear wheel drive and an 8-speed sport automatic ZF gear transmission, controls speed and stability of this model. The engine produces 245 bhp and 350 Nm torque.

This new BMW 3 series is slightly larger than its predecessor in terms of rear legroom and headroom. Its looks are aggressive and sleeker as compared to the 5 series and will give tough competition to the newly launched Audi A4 facelift and Mercedes C class. BMW lost their No 1 position in the luxury car market to Audi India, as far as car sales in the month of June 2012 are concerned. With the launch of new 3 Series, BMW will be hoping to regain their lead in the luxury car industry of India.
