Audi has innovative technology when it comes to building sports cars and this was evident from the fact that the Audi R18 e-tron quattro put up a splendid performance at the fourth race of FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) in Silverstone. This hybrid car was the star of the race and came in first during the championship.
Audi R18 e-tron quattro required a total of six pit stops which was two less that the team coming in second. During this race, Marcel Fässler/André Lotterer/Benoît drove the car which came in at first place. A stop and go penalty awarded to Audi made this race even more exciting.
The Audi R18 ultra driven by Kristensen/McNish had to setlle for third place after a puncture forced the car to lose precious time during the lap. This car was powered by a V6-TDI engine and came in 19 seconds behind the second placed Toyota. Taking into consideration the standings of this race, Audi has a won the WEC Manufacturers' Championship title.
Audi has won four titles between 1982 and 1984 and has also tasted victory at the FIA touring world car Championship held in 1995. The fifth round of the WEC starts in three weeks time and will see Lucas di Grassi joining up with Allan McNish and Tom Kristensen.
