Nissan LEAF electric car and charging stations donated to Middle Tennessee State University

In a bid to promote use of electric vehicles across college campus, Nissan North America has supplied two Nissan LEAF vehicles and three charging stations to Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU). These two vehicles will be used by students, faculty and staff of the university and will bring together two of the most successful employers in Rutherford County. By supplying these vehicles to the University, Nissan hopes to strengthen their bond while also promoting the use of electric powered fuel efficient and emission free vehicles.

Nissan plant in Smyrna is one of their three plants in the US. It opened its doors in June of 1983. It consists of an assembly plant with production capacity of 550,000 vehicles per annum. Nissan LEAF is expected to commence production at this plant by the end of this year while Nissan is also planning commissioning of a new plant from where they will produce lithium ion batteries.

Nissan LEAF is a 100% electric vehicle and forms an instant bond between Nissan and MTSU where both work towards engineering and education. The all electric vehicle is not only highly environmentally friendly but also uses interior fabrics which are made entirely of recycled materials. Its LED lights use 50% less energy than traditional headlights while solar panel spoilers convert sunlight into energy thus charging its 12V battery which also powers its interior lights and entertainment system.
