Ford recalls Escape SUV due to poor carpeting which may affect braking system

Ford Motor Company has announced recall of 10,000 units 2013 Escape SUVs due to faulty carpeting which may adversely affect the car braking system. According to the company, it was found that carpeting was affixed wrongly which caused limited space around brake pedals and would cause problems in the car's braking system should the driver step on the brake pedal following acceleration.

Ford has informed its dealers to rectify the problem free of cost. Over 8,266 units of affected Ford Escape SUV's have been sold in the US, additional 2,000 in Canada and a few in Mexico. No reports of accidents or injuries have been reported due to this carpeting and braking problem.  The company has decided to ensure that all vehicles built between March 8 and June 7, 2012 from company set up in Louisville, Kentucky are brought in for a change and recall will commence from July 23, 2012.

Ford has informed that for all affected vehicle they will be removing carpet padding and left side console trim panel. They will be replacing it with a new panel. 25,500 Escape SUV's were sold last month, up 28% as compared to those sold in June 2011.
