German auto giants Mercedes Benz unveiled their first ever small family car in India, B Class at the Buddh International Circuit earlier yesterday. The car was unveiled by Mr. Peter Honegg, Managing Director and CEO of Mercedes Benz India and this vehicle is slated to be the company's first premium sports tourer in India while it will also be an entry level car in the entire Mercedes Benz lineup.
Top Bollywood personalities and adventure lovers Genelia D'Souza and Ritesh Deshmukh were present at the unveiling which was followed by a First Drive Experience around India's premier F1 circuit. Mercedes Benz is yet to reveal the details about the variants of B Class they will be launching in India. The B Class present at the event were left had drive variants, which suggests that Mercedes Benz plant in India is yet to start assembling B Class for India.
The drive trains expected to be seen on the new Mercedes Benz B Class in India will be 1.6 liter diesel and 1.8 liter petrol engines which will be mated to a 7G-DCT gearbox. Mercedes Benz B Class will arrive in India as a completely knocked down unit and is expected to bear a price tag of between Rs.23 to 29 lakhs. However no final disclosures of price have been announced.
B Class hatchback will appeal to adventure loving enthusiasts and young individuals who are on the lookout a vehicle that appeals to their exploratory spirit. B Class is sporty, sturdy and suitable for long distance travel. Slated to appear in company showrooms by September, the B Class is hoped to provide robust numbers for Mercedes Benz in India.
Recently Mercedes Benz slipped to the third position as far as sales of luxury cars in India is concerned. From being the number one manufacturer of luxury cars in India, Mercedes Benz now sees itself below Audi and BMW, who entered India much later. The company is now targeting a new set of young customers with their all new premium hatchback in India.
