Mercedes Benz CLS Shooting Brake bookings open: Price starts from €61,761

With the launch of the new CLS Shooting Brake, Mercedes Benz is adding another innovative luxury car to the vehicles in this class. The five door car design clearly defines that this model is clearly a coupe, but the roof extending to the rear of the vehicle, gives one a number of ideas.

The car is priced at €61,761 ($75,850 or Rs 42 lacs) for the CLS 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY. According to the sales and marketing team, this car has been designed so as to provide customers with a personification of independence through the new design. Similar to the first CLS 2004, the new CLS has the ability to become a role model for car in this segment.

A naturally designed wooden luggage compartment floor is a new aspect for automotive industry overall. This design feature is totally opposite to the conventional hard finished surfaces in cars. To achieve high dimensional stability, sheets of American cherry tree are glued and pressed together by hand. These veneer sheets are checked thoroughly prior to being used in making the wooden floor of the compartment. For added flexibility one can fold the backrests from the luggage compartment. Rear seat design itself provides for three individual seating options. An alternative folding trailer coupling is also available. Keeping in mind that the CLS coupe was the first car to make use of LED high performance lamps, the CLS shooting Brake has been equipped with an innovative lighting system.

Safety features in the CLS Shooting Brake help keep one safe and secure. These features include Active Blind Spot Assist and Active Lane Keeping Assist. Both these features are include as part and parcel of the driving assistance package plus in combination with DISTRONIC plus, BAS plus and PRE SAFE brake.

The entry level model in the shooting brake segment is the CLS- 250 CDI BE which is capable of producing 204 HP. Its priced at €61,761 and the combined fuel intake is 5.3 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers. Coming in above this model are two-six cylinder models CLS 350 CDI BE and CLS 350 BE capable of producing 265 and 306 Hp respectively. The CLS 500 BE has a V-8 engine which produces 408 Hp. Two models in this segment are available with all wheel drive option. They are the CLS 500 4MATIC BE and the CLS 350 CDI 4MATIC BE.

The CLS shooting Brake Edition 1 will be available for a period of one year. Distinguishing features of this model include designo magno allanite grey matt paint finish, floor mats with "Edition 1" lettering, designo platinum white pearl leather appointments, black designo roof liner and aluminum pedals. Apart from this there are three alternative paint mixes that can be chosen from. Obsidian black, palladium silver and cavansite blue are the three choices that are available. The CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake (€117,512.50) is the dynamic top end model with an MAG v8 Biturbo engine capable of producing 525 Hp and 700 Nm or torque. This car boasts of an AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission. The Edition 1 model boasts of 557 Hp and 800 Nm power output.

A combination of AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension with electronically controlled damping system, optional AMG ceramic high-performance composite braking system and electromechanical AMG sports parameter steering, is synonymous with maximum driving dynamics. LED headlights are a part and parcel of the CLS 63 AMG. The launch date for the CLS shooting brake segment of cars is on October 6th, 2012.
