In the near future Bajaj is planning to introduce a number of new products from the KTM sports AG entity. Austria-based KTM is the second largest bike-maker in Europe. Bajaj Auto has 47 per cent stake in it, through its wholly-owned Netherlands subsidiary Bajaj Auto International Holdings. Having had a superb success rate with sales of the KTM Duke, Bajaj is looking to carve a niche for itself in this segment.
KTM and Bajaj had entered into collaboration in the year 2007, and since then focus of cooperation lies on the common development of motorcycles in the 125 cc to 375 cc segment.
The 125 Duke was launched last year and it has achieved a good sale record. The 200 Duke was the next superbike too make it's entry in the Indian bike market. Response seen towards this bike has been very good as the company has been selling about 1000 units every month.
According to Mr. K. Sriniwas Bajaj is looking to enter into the super-bike segment by rolling out multiple products from the KTM stable. KTM models are built in the Chakan unit in Maharashtra. These models are built on the same line of the Pulsar. With bajaj having set it's eyes on superbikes, localisation could play an important role in keeping prices affordable. The advantage bajaj has in India is it's popularity and more superbikes from them can help bring in a new segment of buyers helping boost sales volume considerably.
