Tesla BMW 3 Series rival by 2015 could sell for $30,000

According to chief engineer Frank von Holzhausen, Tesla is planning to roll out a BMW 3 Series rival in the year 2015 for a reasonable price of $30,000. This new car model will be styled quite differently so as to make it look elegant and stylish as compared to the BMW 3 series variants. The price has been set so as to make the market a bit more competitive as the car begins to get hold of the market.

The company is also planning for a successor to the Roadster. The 3 series challenger and next Roadster will be built on a shortened platform. However, it's not known whether the shortened chassis is a total new design or a shortened version of the Model S platform. Considering the fact that if Tesla goes ahead and designs a car with a shortened platform it would limit the driving mileage as there would not be enough place for a large battery.

EV battery prices are going to fall considerably as there are a number of EV manufacturing companies that have sprung up to cater to the carmakers and users needs. Prices fell by about 14 percent in 2011 and are likely to fall again next year.

Lower EV battery prices and cleaner cars are a great combination for carmakers like Tesla, and for those customers who are looking got alternative transportation. Looking at a good response Tesla got for their Model S platform, tesla is looking to design a Model S based, Model X SUV. von Holzhausen also said that the company could also consider designing a pickup keeping in mind the flexibility of the new Model S platform. von holzhausen also said that there were many other ways in which they could exploit the platform but there will be a particular time and place for these activities sometime later.
