Traffic congestion due to digging of roads poses a hazard to commuters across India

Digging of roads is a very common occurrence in India. Most of the cities in the country have been plagued by woes erupting from the fact that roads have been dug up on a regular basis. These activities cause a lot of problem to both vehicular commuters as also pedestrians. Metropolitan cities have seen the worst of such activities with municipal organization digging up roads for laying sewage, hydraulic and electrical lines. On the whole, it can be seen that unorganized activities and mismatched timings have led to huge problems for commuters.

Roads within city limits are narrow as compared to highways networks. To add to this, increase in number of vehicles on the roads have led to overcrowding many places in the country. As a result of digging up roads, there have been numerous blockages at key points within city limits causing untold suffering for people.

It should be noted that digging of roads is not a regular activity and amends need to be made so as to organize these processes in a systematic manner. Communication needs to be beefed up so as to increase transparency between departments responsible for these activities. At times laying of pipes and electrical infrastructure is an important aspect considering overhaul of the network in the country. During such times civic departments should co-ordinate and decide on timings for these projects way before hand. This will help lower traffic snarls during peak hours and will result in timely completion of projects taken up the municipal bodies.
