Mazda MX-5 GT4 race car launched

Exclusively launched only for private customers, the Mazda Maita or MX-5 GT4 Racecar, as it is more commonly called, will be offered at a base price of £125,000 (US$198,300) excluding VAT and should be available for the 2013 season. Being a track version of MX-5, the vehicle is developed by Mazda along with Jota Sport.

It possesses a 320 bhp MZR 2.0 liter turbo mounted engine mated to a six speed sequential gearbox. Weighing just 1000 kgs (2,200 pounds), this race car competes with the likes of Lotus, Aston Martin, Ginetta in the GT-4 Series. Each car will benefit from technical assistance offered by Jota Sport while spare parts will also be supplied by them.

Extensive use of carbon fiber is seen being used in the MX-5. Rear splitter, rear diffuser and rear wings are all carbon fiber. Also seen on its exterior will be polycarbonate screen and side windows making it suitable for track day enthusiasts. Interiors of the MX-5 feature Pi Omega D2 display and data logger, Carbon fiber dashboard and centre console, FIA Compliant seats with six point harness, and a 320mm racing steering wheel with quick release coupling.
