From parking garage to art gallery, BMW art cars on exhibit during 2012 London Olympics

To add some colour to London Olympic celebrations, ICA in partnership with BMW has teamed up with London Festival and Mayor of London to form a spectacular and multihued Art Drive. Well timed for London Olympics, BMW will be putting up a series of 16 art cars all painted on their exterior by artists like Andy Warhol and David Hockney over the past 35 years.

These cars will be on display on a total of six floors in a parking garage and will be part of London 2012 Cultural Olympiad. On display will be works of Jeff Koons who painted the M3 GT2 in such a fashion that it looks like a car in constant motion. A 850 CSi is painted by David Hockney.

Those not heading to London for the Olympics which commence from July 27, 2012 will be able to view this art exhibition online where photos of the art cars, videos depicting how each of these vehicles were created, step by step footage of the various artists painting cars and information of each of the artists will be available.
