What was once seen only on racing models, will now be added to production models offering better and safer driving technology. Audi has announced that this Digital Rear View Mirror which was once seen on R18 racers will be offered on Audi R8 e-tron models.
Availability of Digital Rear View Mirror will not only ensure better viewing but also result in enhanced safety as rear images are clearer, brighter and in high contrast. Specially beneficial during night time driving, the intelligent control system prevents dazzle from approaching headlights while drivers have been given the option of dimming or deactivating the display as required. While Audi has already announced this Digital Rear View Mirror, the company is also working on incorporating extra information on the monitor in future.
The camera is ultra lightweight and compact and is placed on the optimized housing. It uses a lens with a diameter of few millimeters with the possibility of covering a larger field of vision as compared to a conventional rear view mirror. A 7.7 inch screen is fitted in place of the rear view mirror which offers digital image date from the camera. Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode display is what comes to the fore which is to be seen for the first time in Audi Passenger vehicles which is being developed in conjuncture with Samsung Display Co. Ltd.
