car-to-X communication (C2X) social network road trial for automobiles, a German undertaking

Social networks have been used in today's world to communicate with people over the length and breadth of the globe. Social networks have many uses, they can be used as a medium to promote ones business or fan following or they can be sued to update the world on what is happening around us. Keeping these factors in mind, it can now be seen that social networking will be used to as a communication tool in cars so that people are aware of the happening related to the traffic scenarios in their areas.

In one of the biggest car to x-communication field trials, 120 cars equipped equipped aptly will take to the roads in the Rhine –Main area. Using C2X features these cars will aim to communicate with others to keep them apprised about the ongoing traffic scenarios as also requisite traffic infrastructure. Through this project, one will be able to provide information about traffic jams, pile-ups as also accidents. These methods will prove useful to alert drivers arriving at congestion spots to take appropriate measures before they fall prey to the situation.

C2X systems can also be used to optimize traffic flow by enabling switching of traffic signals based on public demand. C2X will allow one to detect hazardous obstacles and keep one safe on the road. Testing for this feature is being held in USA too. Daimler looks to systematically incorporate this technology across Europe through the DRIVE C2X project.
