Tests related to these cars show that they have completed 300,000 miles (or 482,803 kms) which is equivalent to 12 round the world trips, that too without a single mishap. Though basic entities of this car have been tested, engineers still need to program algorithms to help the car respond to temporary construction signals, snow covered roadways as also a host of other possibilities which could affect drivers.
Keeping safety in mind, a crew member is always present in the driver's seat to take control if any untoward incident should happen. The Lexus RX450h is being programmed so as to refine car systems to acclimatize to any driving conditions. Though there is still a long way to go in the testing period, rumors have that Google cars can be seen on roads within 3 to 5 years.
