Honda begins manufacturing 9th gen Accord with Earth Dreams Engines and Transmissions

2013 Honda Accord will be fitted with the new fuel efficient "Earth Dreams" engines and transmissions. These engines will be produced at Japan based Anna Engine and Honda Transmission Mfg. plants where production has already commenced. These engines will then be supplied to Honda in Marysville, Ohio from where the 2013 Honda Accord will be produced.

A special ceremony was held to celebrate 30 years of Honda production in the US even as the new 2013 Honda Accord rolled off production lines. Honda has invested close to $220 million to spruce up the plant to cater to the demands of 2013 Honda Accord. Expansions, casting operations and fully automated assembly lines have been set up at the plant from where the company expects to roll out 1.8 million Earth Dreams engines per annum.

These engines are direct injected 2.4 liter four cylinder, a CVT transmission and a 3.5 liter V6 with an option of six speed automatic. Each of these engines offer enhanced fuel economy to the tune of 10%, and though initially to be used on Honda Accord, they will gradually make their way into other Honda models in the future.
