Sales during the month of July 2012 for Nissan Motor India Private Ltd have been spectacular. The company recorded an increase to the tune of 118.5% for which Nissan Sunny and Micra are to be given credit. Nissan Sunny, the small entry level sedan has exceeded sales targets. The company has sold 2,436 units during the month while Nissan Micra – also a small hatchback has seen sales reaching 1,028 units during the past month.
Besides these two models, Nissan Teana, X Trail and 370Z also contributed to sales for the month. The company was encouraged by these sales as this has given them confidence in the Indian auto market which shows affinity to smaller and more compact cars. The company is now ready to launch their new Evalia MPV in India which was showcased at the Delhi Auto Show in January 2012.
It is a comfortable family vehicle with capacity to seat upto 7 adults. Production is already underway at the Nissan plant in Chennai and it will compete with the likes of Mahindra Xylo and Toyota Innova once it is launched this year. Nissan Evalia will be fitted with a 1.5 dCi diesel engine that is also seen in the Nissan Sunny. This engine is capable of 85 bhp at 3750 rpm and 200 Nm torque at 2000 rpm. It possesses a number of safety features and fully loaded infotainment system. The inaugural Nissan MPV is likely to fall in an interesting price bracket of Rs 7 Lakhs and Rs 9 Lakhs.
