To a select few Porsche customers in New York, the German sports car manufacturer, Porsche has revealed their state of the art 918 Spyder. Porsche 918 Spyder hybrid sports car is only expected to go into production next year, while deliveries are estimated to commence at the start of 2014. Prices are slated to be in the £678,000 ($1.05 million or Rs 5.87 crores) range. Once launched, Porsche 918 Spyder will compete with Jaguar C-X75, another state of the art hybrid sportscar in the making.
Video of this unveiling appeared on YouTube. From the video, the new sports vehicle will have a low slung body made essentially out of lightweight carbon fiber reinforced plastic. Front end air vents were also easily discernible.
The 918 Spyder will have a 4.6 liter V8 engine capable of 562 bhp power. Besides this it will be fitted with a pair of electric motors situated on each axle while powered by a 6.8 kWh lithium ion battery pack. These two engines together will contribute to 759 bhp. Sprint time from 0 to 62 mph (0-100 kmph) will be less than 3 seconds while the vehicle will be capable of top speed of 202 mph (323 kmph).
