Tata Motors beats Mahindra: Back as the 3rd largest car maker in India

Tata Motors registered an increase in sales by 15%, in July 2012 by recording impressive sales figures of 73,491 which included both commercial and passenger vehicles. Domestic sales of the company's commercial and passenger vehicles registered an increased growth of 18% as compared to the sales seen in July 2011. Total number of sold units which includes exports too, stands at 262,299 registering an increase of 2% as compared to the last fiscal year.Tata Motors passenger car sales units stand at 26,240 for July 2012 as compared to Mahindra & Mahindra's sales figures of 22,011 units.

Sales in commercial vehicles registered a growth of 45 while LCV sales showcased an impressive 19% growth as compared to last year. The same can't be said about M&HCV sales which saw a drop of 19% as compared to sales figures of last July. Passenger vehicle sales were up by 535 this year, Tata Nano sales saw a sharp increase in sales recording a 68% growth, Indica range registered a 51% increase while the Indigo range registered a 40% increase in sales. Sales of other models like Sumo, Safari, Aria and Venture registered a growth of 59%.

These statistics are based on the comparison made between sales in July 2011 and July 2012. Total growth of sales of the Nano and the range Indica are 9% and 12% respectively. Indigo saw a drop in cumulative sales by 14% as compared to last year. Models like Sumo, Safari, Aria and Venture registered an increase of 14% in relation to the cumulative sales. JLR sales continued to see a steep rise in sales this year.
