Ford provides cars for Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) Communications Model Deployment Program

Vehicle to Vehicle Communication Program is something that will go a long way in improving quality of driving, offer enhanced safety, while reducing unnecessary traffic congestion. Ford is offering support to this technology by ensuring that their vehicles are equipped with this experimental connected vehicle technology in association with US Department of Transportation and University of Michigan.

A test site is earmarked for this program at Ann Arbor, Michigan where vehicles will be subjected to a year long program to test the feasibility and on ground realities of the technology. Ford is committed to foraying into the avenue of intelligent vehicle that can communicate with each other, warn each other of upcoming dangers and instruct on real life road conditions and traffic snarls.

Ford is also working alongside Government organizations and other auto manufacturers to ensure that this standard of communication between vehicles comes into effect on a large scale basis. During the yearlong program, over 3000 vehicles will be taking part in the test through 70 lane miles of roadway and on successful completion it is expected that US DOT will make these technologies compulsory in all road vehicles.
