McLaren unveils 12C Spider at Pebble Beach

12C Spider, was officially revealed last month. McLaren, the British auto maker, has now launched the 12C spider at Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. It possesses a retractable hardtop with capacity to fold completely in a matter of 17 seconds. It is fitted with a 3.8 liter twin turbocharged V8 engine generating 616 hp mated to a seven speed dual clutch gearbox. Pricing starts at $265,000 in US.

Maximum speed of the 12C stands at 204 mph which is slower than the fixed roof variant's 207 mph. A notable feature of the top folding variant is the fact that the roof folds away discretely behind the passenger compartment so that the M838T engine is visible from the exterior through a glass lid positioned behind the tonneau cover.

The space wherein the roof folds can also be used as a small storage boot and McLaren is even offering a pair of soft bags specially designed to be accommodated in this limited area. Bookings are open for the McLaren 12C with deliveries expected to commence from end of this year or early 2013. McLaren showcased this model at Pebble Beach for the first time where it received a great deal of attention.
