Across the US on laid back bikes

Erik Kok and Remko BurgerErik Kok and Remko Burger from the Netherlands have undertaken an 8800 km journey across the United States over a 6 months period on Laid Back Bikes. This journey started in March 2012 from San Francisco and ended in August 2012 in New York City. This is not first time that the duo has undertaken adventures of this sort on laid back bikes.
They have travelled in Australia, New Zealand, France, Switzerland and Netherlands. Undertaking this latest feat, the two cycled for about 4 to 6 hours per day, covering a distance of 60 to 140 kms per day. Their longest climb was a 4 hour stretch over an elevation of 1800 meters. They have used the recumbent bike due to its comfort factor which came in handy over longer stretches. These bikes are also faster and have additional space for storing baggage required on the 6 month long trip.
Endomondo bikes were tested in Netherlands prior to undertaking this feat. Cycling for 6 hours was possible on one battery load with the use of HTC Desire in airplane mode. The pair used a laptop for charging and some spare batteries which enabled them to not miss a single mile. Tags:  +Bikes
