Most of India enjoys a tropical climate. So there are not many incidents where people are stranded due to heavy snowfall. One such incident was reported in the state of Himachal Pradesh recently.

Snowfall leaves 10,000 vehicles stranded in India (1)TOI reports recent snowfall in northern parts of India has caused vehicles to be stranded on highways and roads closing down the road network effectively. In Himachal Pradesh about 10,000 vehicles were stranded across the state after heavy snowfall forced closing down of 185 roads and Kulu-Manali highway.Photo Gallery (4 images)

Due to closure of the highway tourists have been forced to trek 20 kms to Manali from Patlikuhl and that to in sub zero temperatures. Adding to peoples woes, snapped power lines have left many villages and homes in darkness as local administration hasn’t been able to reach affected areas due to pileup of snow on roads. Shimla received 25 cm of snowfall and 43.8 mm of rain while Manali and Kalpa received 51 cm and 95.2 cm of snow respectively.

Though snow wrought havoc causing three deaths, tourists were in for a delight as a picturesque blanket of snow blanketed the whole area from Thursday. Images here are courtesy of WN.
