Ford’s new 1.0L EcoBoost engine is a compact powerhouse capable of producing 123 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque respectively. This is the first three cylinder engine in the company’s history which makes use of technologies like offset crankshaft, split cooling system, external balancing, variable oil pump and a responsive turbocharger with a timing belt that’s immersed in oil.

The revolutionary design provides us with a smaller compact smooth running engine for the Ford EcoSport SUV that provides power equal to that of a 1.6 l four cylinder engine. Due to fewer moving parts, energy efficiency is high and emissions low.

The powerhouse is small enough to fit on an A4 size paper and light enough to be carried about in a handbag. It’s proven its worth by setting 16 land speed records in France and has been awarded numerous commendations by automotive magazines and organizations. This is the fourth engine is Ford’s EcoBoost lineup and since 2009, Ford has sold over 520,000 EcoBoost equipped engines with sales expected to rise during 2013.
