With the Indian auto market showing more preference to SUVs, Renault Duster and Mahindra Quanto have a major battle to contend with, with each brand trying to stake their claim over the other. Renault Duster saw a total of mind whopping 10,000 bookings within a month of launch, and it is now left to be seen how this will measure up against the Mahindra Quanto when it arrives in company showrooms at M&M dealerships next week. The Mahindra Quanto launch is scheduled for 20th September 2012.

This segment has seen a number of automakers vying for attention. Nissan, Chevrolet and Ford have all set their targets on this SUV segment thereby bringing out compact and price efficient SUVs such as Ford EcoSport, and Chevrolet Trax which are also expected to launch this year. As the festive season in India draws closer, auto makers are gearing up for increased sales during this auspicious time of the year. Auto companies are set to cash in on increased sales normally witnessed during this period with each company coming up with festive offer cars to entice customers into showrooms. Last year, Mahindra XUV500 was launched. The overwhelming response saw them have to interrupt booking as demand had outstripped supply within a week of launch.

The Renault Duster five seater compact SUV has far outdone sales of both Mahindra Scorpio and Tata Safari attributing to its competitive pricing at Rs.7.2 lakhs, and enhanced features. M&M is optimistic of their Quanto compact SUV, which will bear a price tag lower than full bodied SUV's. A Mahindra Quanto price tag of under Rs 6 lakhs should work wonders in taking on the Renault Duster. Competitive pricing, and the backing of Mahindra brand can give the Quanto a fighting chance against Renault Duster. M&M's XUV500 SUV launch had to be limited to 5 major cities for the initial months in coping with demand, and just ahead of festivities, Mahindra would be glad to repeat the success story with the Quanto variants.
