BBC allows Tablet and Mobile Phone users to download shows: End of huge phone bills due to TV streaming

Holidaymakers receive huge phone bills when they stream TV shows abroad. Most individual’s accidently stream TV programs while on vacation, this results in huge phone bills. Now, holiday makers do not have to worry about this scenario anymore. For the first time BBC is allowing individuals to download its shows to their tablets and mobile devices. Individuals can now download their favorite show before they go on vacation abroad.

This move by BBC is expected to bring down phone bills of people that stream TV on their smartphone. A large number of people love to watch their favorite programs or shows on the move, in busses and trains in particular. Children’s content and comedy shows are exceedingly popular with users of smartphones and tablets.

BBC General Manager, On-Demand Programs, Daniel Danker said “This fundamentally changes one of the most annoying restrictions about viewing programs. It means audiences are liberated from the constraints (of online-only viewing) and it fundamentally changes what it means to be on holiday. With mobile downloads, you can now load up your mobile phone or tablet with hours and hours of BBC programs, then watch them on the road, on the tube, on a plane, without worrying about having an internet connection or running up a mobile data bill”. Besides iPhone and iPad, this BBC download service is also available with a number of other devices that include TV set-top-boxes, PS3 and Xbox 360 gaming consoles.
