Mercedes Benz India investment of Rs.850 crores by 2014: Local assembly of new M-Class

Mercedes Benz India committed in their increase in operations and investment in the Indian luxury auto market. Previously, investments to the tune of Rs.850 crores were slated to be made by 2014. In keeping with growth plans, the new paint shop is expected to be fully functional by sometime next month which will have an annual capacity of 20,000 units while this will be increased to 40,000 units.

The company plant in Chakan near Pune which came up in 2009 is spread over 100 acres. It is rated among the best of Mercedes Benz' CKD plants. It is from here that the company manufactures their C Class, E Class and S Class sedans while the plant will be credited as being the first plant outside of the US SUV plant to assemble the M Class.

The ongoing investment of Rs.850 crores will go a long way in strengthening the range of Mercedes Benz models in the Indian luxury auto market. The company presently has 31 showrooms, 41 service centres in 31 cities in the country and will be working towards adding new touch points every year.
