Small and Light Commercial vehicle market growth impetus in India auto sector

Government policies, technical developments and economic changes have driven in increased demand for both small and light commercial vehicles in the Indian auto sector. Rapid growth is seen in this segment which will only increase in the coming five to ten years. In a recent study conducted by Frost & Sullivan titled – Strategic Assessment of Small and Light Commercial Vehicles Market in India sees greater demand for vehicles in this category.

Sales during 2010-11 stood at 353,620 units and this is expected to increase both in percentage and volume in the coming five years while it is hoped to touch 827,920 by 2015-16. Indian heavy duty automobile manufacturers are concentrating on this segment which has seen tremendous growth in the past few years and which promises to show increased results in the years to follow.

India has no dearth of local manufacturers in this segment. Tata Motors Limited, Ashok Leyland and Mahindra & Mahindra are at the forefront in manufacture of small and light commercial vehicles and have their roots firmly embedded throughout India while acquisitions abroad are none the less and increasing with every passing year.
