Used BMW 3 Series is the most prone to developing fault

According to researchers, BMW 3 Series is the worst car when it comes to buying second hand models. This is so as they have a very large probability of developing faults on a regular basis. These statistics are based on motors that were between four to eight years old.

Researchers claim the BMW 3 –series convertible has a high rate of developing faults causing it to be off the roads for an average of 3.5 days a year. Coming in second was the Land Rover Discovery 3 which spent about 2.7 days off roads on an average. Another BMW model, the BMW 3-series Touring edition came in third with an estimated 2.6 days off roads due to faults.

Considering models less than three years old saw the BMW 3- series convertible seeing about 1.33 days of the garage. Worst hit were Peugeot 3008 MPV models which were off the roads for about 1.94 days on an average, while Land Rover Discovery 4 models stayed at the garage for 1.84 days. These statistics were from vehicles that were less than three years old. The study was carried out by Which? magazine. Suspension problems, jammed fuel caps, rattles and noises were many of the problems that were reported in a survey of 40,000 drivers in UK.

A Which? spokesman said: "Knowing how likely it is the car you are to buy will develop a fault could save you a headache." But BMW insisted: "We are surprised at this. A big percentage of our customers are repeat buyers which shows they have excellent ownership experiences."
