New fuel economy standards finalized and to be implemented by 2025: Automobile future

Both General Motors and
Ford Motors have agreed to these new fuel standards an have already begun huge investments to develop these new fuel efficient vehicles while also concentrating on the production of more electric vehicles to make dependence on fuel even more superfluous.US Government has finalized a new set of fuel economy rules on Tuesday.

This assures double fuel economy standards for both cars and light trucks which will come into effect during the course of the next 12 years. These rules dictate that fuel economy should be increased to 54.5 mph. While this may or may not come into effect it will also add more to the cost of the car but taking the overall picture into account, owners will spend less of fuel which will balance the cost of the car.

Once these rules come into effect, it will also result in lower oil imports. By the year 2024-25, once these highly fuel efficient cars hit the market, the country will be able to reduce their dependency of import of oil. However, with every rule there is another side of the coin with those against this regulation arguing that there will be fewer people able to afford higher costs of these fuel efficient vehicles that will be launched in future.
